Master key systems considerations

The Tigris® cylinder system offers four cylinder levels;

• Tigris® Standard
• Tigris® Plus
• Tigris® Omega
• Tigris® Premier

When selecting the master key system most appropriate for an application the following factors must be considered:

  • How secure should the master key system be?
    • Not only the physical elements of the cylinder yet are pirate keyblanks available? Are the procedures to obtain additional keys secure?
  • Should this be an integrated master key system?
    • Shall the key holders carry separate keys & fobs to operate mechanical and electronic doors within the building or should the carry a combined eTouch™ credential?
  • How accessible should the master key system be?
    • The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA):2005 introduced measures aimed at ending discrimination against those with special needs. Tigris® accessible thumbturns and key fobs are designed to meet the needs of BS8300:2009 and to contribute to satisfying the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
  • How large and how complex should the master key system be?
    • Will the master key system cater for your keying needs now? Will it cater for any future expansion needs?
  • How convenient should key duplicating be?
    • We can provide systems where keyblanks are freely available and local key cutting is possible. These master key systems are less secure yet key duplication is convenient. Alternatively we can provide secure systems where key cutting is only provided by the Tigris®. Keys are supplied within a few days yet these master key systems are much more secure.
  • What kind of cylinders are needed in the system?
    • Some of our special sizes, functions and finishes are only available on certain cylinder levels.
  • What functions are required from the master key system?
    • What were once enhanced features have become standard items for specific applications. Over 70% of education projects utilise classroom function cylinder locks to cater for the safety needs of the facility. A significant proportion of our systems are supplied 'construction keyed' to guarantee security at the point of project handover.
